Davadur presents YUNIS (Egypt) & Tasos Stamou (GR/UK) Live at Plex
Touring in Europe with material from his new album "Ninety Nine Eyes", the Egyptian electronic musician YUNIS will share the stage with the local musician Tasos Stamou, with whom they share (in addition to the record label Akuphone) several common ground as hacking but also respect for the musical traditions of the southeastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
Following the trend of new Arab electronic music producers with international reach career, such as Islam Chipsy, Raed Yassin and Rizan Said, Yunis creates ecstatic Arabtronica equally influenced by the deep Egyptian shamanic musical tradition, the more recent tradition of wedding music with synthesizers, and the waves of global contemporary electronic music.Tasos Stamou initially became widely known in the avant-garde experimental music scene, through the improvised, modified electronic instruments he built and used. During his long stay in the United Kingdom (London), he began to tinker not only with electronics, but also with the local Greek musical traditions with which he grew up.
His "folkloric" work has been particularly positively received by international avant-garde music media, such as The Wire, The Vinyl Factory, The Quietus, Soundohm, etc. He has also been featured in articles and podcasts that focus on the contemporary evolution of traditional sound. Among his most recent works, Balkan Express (Akuphone, France) gave an even clearer intention of the musician to experiment with more pop forms, using standardized outdated electronic instruments of the 80s and 90s.
